Your personal site cannot be created because a site already exists. Contact your site administrator for more information.

We see the error some times when we create the personal site using My Site option in SharePoint. There could be of many reasons of not able to create the My site. In this article I am providing the most common that we need to look.

Issue: Your personal site cannot be created because a site already exists. Contact your site administrator for more information

Cause: There will be a site already created with the same User as that of the current user

Solution: Ensure to check and follow the below to resolve the error.
1.     There will be a site already created with the same user  as that of the current user.
2.     So just delete the site by going to Central Admin> Application Management > SharePoint Site Management > Delete Site Collection ->
3.     Try to create the new My site and check.

Note: But this condition may also arise if you have multiple domain users accessing your portal Such case the display name of any of the user have to be changed.

NOTE The KB articles for the re-released Service Pack is different from the recalled Service Pack.
  • KB 2880551 - SharePoint Foundation 2013 SP1
  • KB 2880552 - SharePoint Server 2013 SP1
  • KB 2880553 - Project Server 2013 SP1
  • KB 2880554 - SharePoint Server Language Pack
  • KB 2880555 - SharePoint Foundation Language Pack
  • KB 2880558 - Office Web Apps Server 2013 SP1
Download links for updated SP1:
Customers who alreday deployed Service Pack 1
For customers who have previously deployed Service Pack 1, download the updated Service Pack 1 and install over the existing Service Pack 1 running PSConfig or PSConfigUI immediately following.

Customers who not yet deployed Service Pack 1
For customers without Service Pack 1 deployed, download the updated Service Pack 1 package and deploy as per the KB documentation.

Build number as seen in central admin after installation: 15.0.4569.1000

The March PU Is not required prior to install SP1 on top of RTM version!

March Public update for SharePoint 2013



March Public update for  SharePoint 2013 

The product group recently released the March 2013 Public Update (PU) for the SharePoint 2013 product family.

Important: Due to a change in the package configuration introduced after SharePoint 2013 RTM the March Public update is a mandatory requirement in order to install subsequent SharePoint 2013 Updates.

That means that in order to install future cumulative updates for SharePoint 2013 it will be mandatory to first install the March public update.
  • KB 2768000 - SharePoint Foundation 2013
  • KB 2767999 - SharePoint Server 2013
  • KB 2768001 - Project Server 2013
The Full Server Packages for March 2013 PU are available through the following links:
Note: Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2013 PU contains the SharePoint Foundation PU. And the Project Server 2013 PU contains SharePoint Server PU and SharePoint Foundation PU.

That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2013 product family
